Be Active Truro 2012
Following its great success in 2011, we again ran Be Active Truro in 2012 with the support of the Cornwall Sports Partnership, from 7th to 11th August.
The event took place on Lemon Quay and around the city centre between Monday and Saturday and attracted crowds of at least 2,000 people to the exhibition stands and several hundred to the different sports on offer.
Lemon Quay was buzzing from the six-day festival featuring sports and activities, from a climbing wall to Zumba dance demonstrations.
The event was organised by Truro City Council and Event Cornwall, support from Totally Truro Business Improvement District facilitated the event.
Be Active Truro aims to encourage everyone to get active and lead a healthy lifestyle, as well as promote the facilities on offer in the city.
Local traders offered sporting activities and products on Lemon Quay. This year orienteering, football, rowing and street games were on the cards, along with a drop in physio clinic and sports massages. Be Active Truro presented an abundance of activities to 'come and try' plus demonstrations and a host of sports goodies on offer.
Highlights of the festival included a business sports day with six teams participating, won by the West Briton's own Team WB, a full version live BMX display and orienteering around the city using GPS technology.
Thursday was "Wheels Day", with activities for people of all abilities, including wheelchair basketball and inclusive bikes that can be used by disabled people. On Friday, more than 100 young people from communities outside Truro took part in the Cornwall Street Games event.
