Visit South Devon - Crab Festival
Through our sister company Event Devon, we were really excited to work with Visit South Devon to deliver 3 events as part of the South Devon Crab Festival.
The South Devon Crab festival took place at the start of August, and was a week long series of crab inspired community events across South Devon involving the area's top celebrity chefs, crab experts, fisherman, award winning hotels, restaurants and cafes. Designed to celebrate the delights of this wonderful seafood, learn about their habitats, and the increased importance of sustainability in crab fishing, the Crab Festival was a great success with hundreds of people getting involved across South Devon.
We worked closely with Visit South Devon to deliver 3 fantastic events as part of the busy programme. On Friday 3rd August, the seafront at Dawlish Warren was transformed into a Crab Fete with lots of free family activities for everyone to get their claws into, and Active Devon held a traditional sports day with a crabby twist. Hundreds of visitors took part during the day, enjoying the craft stalls and sea themed art workshops on offer. In the evening, we travelled across to Teignmouth to cater for the crowds at the Raft Race, with an offering of local crab salad from the Crab Shack and homemade desserts from Shaldon Bakery.
On Sunday 5th August, we co-ordinated the Crab Festival Street Party alongside Visit South Devon in conjunction with various local partners including Mitch Tonks, The Castle Hotel, Manna from Devon and Blue Seafood. Crab Salad was on the menu, as the 400 guests enjoyed a feast of local music and entertainment, as well as a crab dressing contest with Mitch Tonks and Nathan Outlaw. Despite heavy rain during the morning, the sun came out at 11am, and we were able to go ahead as planned.
It was great to get our claws into these projects in South Devon, and we look forward to even more cracking events there next year.
