Best Ever City of Lights Friday 18th November 2011
A record-breaking 25,000 people swelled the streets of Truro to watch the big Christmas lights switch-on.
Crowds flocked to the city centre on Wednesday night to enjoy the annual City of Lights festival. Community groups paraded through the city centre carrying lanterns and dancing to the Samba bands before the grand switch-on of the city's festive illuminations in Boscawen Street.
The Totally Truro Business Improvement District pays for the city's Christmas lights. Neil Scott, Totally Truro BID manager, said: "This was the best year ever for the number of visitors. We've been going for 14 years and this is the best ever year. The lanterns in the parade were superb and of a really high standard, all using the same theme of animals.
"Also the weather was with us. It had been raining all day and we were obviously worried but by the evening it was dry, which was an absolute blessing.
"It was a truly Truro experience for everyone involved."
