Dancing in the streets as music festival takes over the city again Thursday 20th October 2011

The Music Truro festival kicked off with a typically eclectic night on Monday 17th October, blending Truro Cathedral Choir with Glastonbury regulars the People's String Foundation Trio.

After a taste of classical music at the cathedral in the evening, the trio, who played Glastonbury's Small World Stage this year, were at Vertigo on Monday night.

The mix of genres and venues reflects Music Truro's aim of getting varied music into as many places in the city as possible.

The week-long festival, ending on Saturday and funded by Totally Truro Business Improvement District, features venues including The Office, Bunters, Vertigo, the Cathedral, the Riverbank and the Hall for Cornwall.

Programme

A spokesman for Event Cornwall, which has organised the programme, said it focused on lunchtime and post-5pm performances to get residents and workers out enjoying the city.

Music will also reach some more unusual venues, including the Post Office and Waterstone's, with street entertainers also appearing across the city.

Paul Rothwell, assistant manager at the Post Office, welcomed musicians Tom Elliot and Logan Anderton on Monday morning.

"Monday's pension day, so it's busy from 8am, when people queue up waiting for us to open," he said. "It's making the customers smile; it's not something you would expect to see here."

Neil Scott, BID manager for Totally Truro, said: "The fourth Music Truro has got off to a great start. It's been wonderful to hear the city alive with music.

"People are coming out on to the streets at lunchtimes and in the evenings to see what's happening and lingering in Truro after work.

"We're also showcasing some superb venues and some excellent talent - a lot of it home-grown in Cornwall."
