Torch Relay & Flame Festival Tuesday 1st May 2012

We're all geared up for the Olympic celebrations, with involvement in two fantastic Cornish events.

Truro will be celebrating this iconic day in a number of ways. There is a full day of activity planned that focuses on celebrating Cornwall and the sporting talent that it boasts.
Prior to the torch arriving there will be a Celebration of Sport parade; this will see up to 1000 sports participants from around Cornwall parading through the streets of Truro headed up by Truro School of Samba.
The Celebration of Sport parade is a chance for all local sports clubs and groups to be part of the Olympic Torch Relay.  A chance for your club to parade through Truro demonstrating your talents and promoting your club. This opportunity is open to all clubs within Cornwall.  If you are interested in being part of this event please visit:http://www.cornwallsportspartnership.co.uk/news/archive/truro-celebration-of-sport-parade-call-for-activities,
or send an email with the name of your club  and the number of participants wanting to be involved to celebration@eventcornwall.co.uk.
You can also contact Becky at Event Cornwall on 01872 888089.

Following the sport parade there will be a big play on Lemon Quay from Truro School of Samba followed closely by a performance from Kernocopia at midday. This will really ground and show the importance of The Olympics with a Cornish twist, and show how Cornwall's history has shaped some of the sports celebrated and played in the Olympics today.
There will be a number of the Olympic Torch Relay sponsors positioned along the route so make sure you grab a goodie or two. The torch will be in Truro from 12:25 and will only be in the City for 20 minutes, so plan your spot before you come in on the day and make sure you have plenty of time to get there. Truro is expected to be busy but that's because people will want to be part of this iconic day - so as a community lets celebrate the day together.

Following the passing of the torch there will be a number of activities continuing in Truro; there will be drop in carnival workshops, face-painting, balloon modelling, arts and crafts, flag making workshops plus the farmers market, to really make the most of this special day.
In the afternoon at 3pm there will be a performance by Scary little Girls so make sure you don't miss it!
Come and find us on Lemon Quay to join in with the activities.

Please go to www.enjoytruro.co.uk for all information on road closures, timings of the torch and car parking as well as some tips on the best spots to watch from. For information on the day contact Truro's Tourist information centre on 01872 274555.

As well as working on the Truro celebrations for the Torch Relay, we are also delivering the Heartlands Flame Festival celebrating the Olympics in Camborne, Pool and Redruth.

The Festival offers loads of free activities including craft workshops, dance sessions, performances, fire sculptures and a fantastic circus show, led by Swamp Circus. As Heartlands isn't on the main route, we don't have the same tight requirements as the Torch Relay route sites but we are working to ensure that the Festival fits perfectly into the Cornish celebrations and meets all of the LOCOG requirements.

We are delighted to be working with Heartlands again - it's fantastic to be working on the open site now having been involved in the planning and preparatory events for the last 3 years.
