‘Art in the City’, a weeklong annual arts festival, takes place from Tuesday 6th - Sunday 11th April and involves open spaces and galleries across the city of
We are looking for a range of artists and galleries to take part in ‘Big Art’, as part of the Art in the City festival to be held in Truro from the 6th – 11th April 2010.
‘Big Art’ will take place on Tuesday 6th April, from
The ‘Big Art’ will then be exhibited from Wednesday 7th to Thursday 8th April in the festival marquee on Lemon Quay and will be auctioned to the general public on Thursday at 5pm. After deducting £75 for the initial costs for the piece, the remainder of the money made will be given to the artist as payment for their ‘Big Art’.

If you’re interested in being a Big Art artist, then we would like to hear about your proposal for the canvas by Friday 5th March. Submission of an expression of interest is not a confirmed place as part of ‘Big Art’ and the artists involved in the project will be confirmed by 15th March following a selection process by Totally Truro and Event Cornwall.

Following the success of the Well-worth it Art Fair in 2009, we are looking for a range of high quality artists and galleries to take part in the Art Fair, as part of the Art in the City 2010.
A wide variety of artists and local galleries took part in the Art Fair last year, with thousands of people visiting the event to buy their own piece of affordable art.
Taking place in the Art in the City marquee on Lemon Quay in
A stand at the Art Fair will cost £100 for the 3 day event. All bookings must be confirmed by 15th March and the payment should be made in one instalment on or before 22nd March.
As stall holders you will be required to:-
- Supply your own equipment for your display.
- Commit to the full 3 days for the presence of your stall in the Art Fair.
- Provide your own insurance.
- Provide your own transportation to the Art Fair.
- Staff your stall for the 3 full days of the Art Fair.
- Apply for your own consent to trade from Cornwall Council (see notes below).
As co-ordinators of the Art Fair we will:-
- Provide a table and mains power supply.
- Provide overnight security.
- Promote the Art Fair through the festival brochure, PR, online activity and relevant festival promotional literature.
- Provide a finalised layout for the Fair, and your location (which could be subject to change at our discretion)

The art competition will be open to all on the theme of ‘My Truro’ and registration opens 1st March 2010. Entries can include paintings, drawings, sketches, and collage. This year there will also be a separate category for photography which will be open to all age groups. The finished work is to be submitted to the Art in the City marquee on Lemon Quay in
The art work will be judged on the following criteria:-
- Interpretation of the theme – ‘My Truro’
- Use of materials
- Technical merit
- Commercial value of the art
- Art with the most vision and passion.
A prize will be awarded for each of the following age groups:-
13 and under, 14 – 20, 21 and over.
The art work that is thought to most encapsulate the theme of the competition will then win the Prize of Prizes.
The competition prizes include an art hamper and voucher from Truro Arts Supplies, a £50 cash prize from Truro City Council, a £75 cash prize and an opportunity to exhibit the winning art in the Lander Gallery.
The photograph thought to most encompass the theme of ‘My Truro’ will win a £50 gift voucher from Cornwall Cameras.
Entrants will also receive a discount on their painting competition materials from Truro Arts Supplies when they register their entry with Event Cornwall (see entry details below). You will receive 10% off any sale over £5 (excluding products already on offer). Once registered, you will receive confirmation of your entry, and the discount code, which can then be used in store to claim your discount.
