Case Study - Cornwall Young Promoters

Training Interesting People

RIO, (the Real Ideas Organisation) works with young people to make real change happen through social enterprise. They got in touch to ask us to deliver a training session for the Young Promoters, a Paul Hamlyn funded scheme lead by RIO and The Works, which aims to set up eleven networked groups of young people across Cornwall to book and promote touring work in a variety of venues.

The young people were from all types of backgrounds and had wonderfully varied interests and reasons for being involved. The training day covered the basics of event management, from planning, marketing and strategy to people management and finance, and explored how these aspects all work together to create an effective event. The group worked together as a planning team on live project examples, and analysed possible events for the Promoter's Scheme, supporting each other through informed decision making processes.

We loved working with these engaged and passionate young people and were really pleased to have played our part in their professional development as aspiring event managers.

"I came away feeling that I definitely had a new way to approach event design and the planning process"

"I found the course really interesting and exciting and enjoyed meeting Clare and the other participants. I will definitely take away what I have learnt and apply to my own events"

"The fact that it's a day course is great for a sole trader whose free time is difficult to dedicate to a full length course"
